* Little Doll *

* this is what the whole page looks like *

* She was made by hand- not by a famous artist, but a loving one. Her limbs and form would not be sought after by museums and collectors, but she had her own unique beauty. Sometimes she would see some- thing she liked about herself, and that gave her enough confidence to leave the box, leave the storage chamber and find her way into the wide world. *

* There are stores that help dolls find homes. Glass enclosed shelves, toy boxes, the places dolls want to be.. she went, but heard- "Not big enough, not small enough, not pretty enough, not ugly enough, not old enough, not new enough, not hard enough, not soft enough." There never seemed to be a right place for her, but she did not lose hope. In the glass of a window or the reflection of a pond she always kept herself nice. Shiny things found she added to her dress and hands. Once she saw a pretty doll crying by the way and told her where they were looking for dolls like her. When the pretty doll did not come back, she knew the doll had found a home.

Time, in its ways of days and nights and the turning of stars is very nice to see. The little doll watched and saw its beauty, but Time did not return the kind gaze, it faded her. Little shoes wore out, threads thinned and joints weakened. Her artist was a loving one, not a famous one- she was unique, but made of simple things. Some store owners saw her unique face and form in her search for a home and she began to see dolls with her eyes, or her lips, or her hair on new bodies that were made hard enough, or soft enough, or big enough or small enough. They were made of space-age materials and were brightly colored and inexpensive. The little doll saw this and wondered at it all. One day the real whole doll, she herself, will have a place, she just knew it.

The little doll was made by hand- and was different and beautiful. What she did not know was people were afraid to not look like everyone else. "It is hard to be the only one, and I do not want to be the only one", they cried. They got the same dolls so everyone would walk by them and not stop and stare. She saw their fear and then knew she would never find a place with them. *

* The little doll decided to make her own home inside and outside herself, and instead of looking for someone to love her, she loved others. Instead of wanting someone to hold her, she held others until her threads tore and her form crumbled. Eventually all that was left was the memory of her in all the copies that wished they could have been like her. Many dolls and buyers of dolls could see and feel things they could not put into words. The Little doll departed the world alone but left behind a streak of inspiration that gave common things a part of something divine~ a link with an unknown beauty, a link with the uncommon, a link that came of love, not conformity. If you don’t understand this now, one day you will. *
